ADMINISTRATIVE SERVICES 

The Administrative and Support Services are responsible for seeing that all fiscal matters relating to the hospital are handled within the guidelines provided by the State and in a way that provides for the needs of patients while keeping the institution fiscally sound.  Other administrative service departments are responsible for maintaining patient care support in their various areas including food service, maintenance, environmental services, security, and materials management.

CLINICAL  SERVICES

The Clinical Services Division is dedicated to providing comprehensive assessments as the foundation for good quality, individualized treatment and rehabilitation services. The goal is to help individuals regain and maintain their highest possible level of functioning in an environment of their choice. Clinical Services staff are integral to the design and development of patient care services and in the measurement of outcomes and processes related to quality patient care. Comprised of staff from a variety of disciplines and training backgrounds, the Clinical Services Division is uniquely situated to work collaboratively with both internal and external treatment providers and other community agencies to ensure that maximum benefit is achieved from inpatient hospitalization and that a smooth transition is made from one care setting to another.  Clinical Services consists of Psychology, Social Work, Rehabilitative Services, Library, Community Services, and Volunteer Services.    Additionally, Clinical Service staff serve as Mental Health Patient Unit Programs Directors on the four patient units:  Acute Admissions, Extended Rehabilitation Services, and Geriatrics.

HUMAN RESOURCES

The Human Resources Department is responsible for planning, coordinating and administering programs designed to recruit, compensate and retain a qualified, effective, and efficient workforce. This department serves as the facility's primary staff component for all matters relating to human resources. Services are based on clear statements of values contained in policies, regulations, and laws related to human resources management.

MEDICAL SERVICES

The Medical Staff and Medical Services seek to continuously provide the highest quality psychiatric and medical services to all patients at all times. The Medical Staff also serves the region as a resource for the continuing care of patients with severe mental illnesses and is committed to the education and support of patients and their families.  The Medical Services Division consists of the Medical Staff and the Departments of Laboratory, Pharmacy, X-Ray Services, and Health Information Management.

NURSING

In support of the mission and the critical success factors of the Institute, SWVMHI's Nursing Department mission is "Well qualified and competent RNs, LPNs, and CNAs provide excellent and holistic nursing care for inpatients at Southwestern Virginia Mental Health Institute. The Nursing Process is used to implement age specific interventions for adolescent, adult, and geriatric populations with acute or long-term needs. Nursing staff members continually gain knowledge and improve processes that promote a safe, healing, and hopeful environment; provide safe administration and assessment of medications and treatments; create and role model therapeutic relationships; integrate care between other professional disciplines; and assist the patient and family from the pre-admissions process through discharge to achieve optimal recovery.

QUALITY/RISK MANAGEMENT

The Quality/Risk Management Department is a support unit which administers the program to improve organizational performance, risk management and activities which assure the Institute's current compliance with accreditation and regulatory standards.

STAFF DEVELOPMENT AND TRAINING

The Staff Development and Training Department directs and/or provides pre-service and in-service education to staff, other state employees and the public-at-large as a means of supporting the organization's overall mission of providing excellent patient care.
